Discovered: Kylie became an instant Australian celebrity with her role in the daily soap opera, Neighbours. In a lucky turn of events a song that Kylie performed for a charity event, 'Loco-Motion', was submitted to a record company that wanted to get behind Kylie's soap-opera fame. The record was released and shot to number one in Australia, in 1987 and climbed to the top five on the U.S. charts.
Resume: Her second hit single, "I Should Be So Lucky," paved the way for more number one hits in Australia and the U.K., including 1990's "Better the Devil You Know", her fourth album, Let's GO to It, a self-titled fifth album, and her sixth album, Impossible Princess. Each album represented an evolution in Kylie's music, culminating in a revival of her pop roots with 2000's Light Years. The album produced hits such as "Spinning Around," but it was 2001's single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head," that brought Kylie international success and made her a U.S celebrity.
Following her hit single, the album, Fever in October, won her two Brit Awards in February 2002 for "Best International Female" and "Best International Album". In 2004 she released, Body Language, and soon after began her worldwide Showgirl tour. In mid-May, 2005, at age 36, Kylie was unexpectedly diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer and began undergoing treatment.
